Post Screenshot

Open Post Screenshot →

Post Screenshot draws any public Bluesky post as a clean image, without the app around it. Use it to share a post on another site, in a slide, or in a newsletter.

The image shows the author’s avatar, name, and handle, the post’s text with links, mentions, and hashtags in the link color, up to four images, a link card, a video’s still with a play mark, and a quoted post or a quoted feed, list, Starter Pack, or labeler. Under the post are the date and time and the reply, repost, like, and quote counts.

The preview on the page is the image itself: what you see is what you download or copy, at twice the size for sharp results.

  • You do not need to sign in. The post must be public.
  • You need a link to the post. The box takes a post link from bsky.app, Deer.social, Blacksky, and other clients that use the same post addresses, or an at:// post URI.
  • The address holds the link and every option you change, so an image is a shareable link.
  1. On Bluesky, open the post and copy its link.
  2. Open Post Screenshot and paste the link in Post link.
  3. Choose Make image. The preview appears; Loading pictures from the author’s server… shows while its pictures load.
  4. Choose the Frame, Background, Theme, and Width, and switch details on or off. The preview updates as you go.
  5. Choose Download PNG to save the image, or Copy image to paste it somewhere else.
  6. To make another image, paste a new link and choose Make image. To start over, choose Clear in the box. Your options stay.
Option Choices Default
Frame Card: the post on a rounded card with a margin around it. Plain: the post edge to edge, with the date and the counts as words under a line. Card
Background Around the card: Transparent (the PNG keeps a see-through background), White, Light grey, or the Sky, Dawn, and Night gradients. Every choice but Transparent adds a soft shadow under the card. Shown only with the Card frame. Transparent
Theme Light or Dark. Light
Width Narrow (420 px), Medium (550 px), or Wide (680 px). The PNG is twice as wide. Medium
Show Bluesky logo The Bluesky butterfly in the top right corner. On
Show counts Replies, reposts, likes, and quotes at the foot of the post, as Bluesky counts them now. On
Show date The date and time the post was written, in your time zone, and the date of a quoted post. On
Include quote The post this one quotes, with its pictures. Shown only when the post quotes something. On
Show sensitive media Pictures labeled as adult content or graphic media are blurred, with their label, until you turn this on. Shown only when the post has such pictures, and not saved in the address. Off
  • Download PNG saves the image as bluesky-post-<handle>-<post ID>.png.
  • Copy image puts the PNG on your clipboard. It appears only in browsers that can copy images.

Both wait until the pictures have loaded.

Nothing: it only reads. The post comes from Bluesky’s public API (AppView). Avatars, images, and link card pictures are read from each author’s own Bluesky server (PDS), because Bluesky’s picture service does not let a page turn its pictures into a downloadable image. Video stills come from Bluesky’s video service.

The image is drawn in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the post stays only in the open tab.

Nothing to undo: it only reads.

  • One post per image. Threads and replies above the post are not drawn.
  • A quoted post’s text is cut off after 12 lines.
  • Each picture can be at most 8 MB. Pictures are scaled down to 1,400 px on their shorter side.
  • Posts and accounts Bluesky hides (labeled !hide or !takedown), and accounts that ask to be shown only to people signed in to Bluesky, are not drawn. A quoted post by such an account shows as Post not shown.
  • Videos are drawn as their still image; the image does not play.

The box holds something other than a post link, such as a profile link or a link from a client the tool does not know. Open the post on bsky.app and copy its link from there.

“Bluesky did not return this post. It may have been deleted, or its author may have left Bluesky.”

Section titled ““Bluesky did not return this post. It may have been deleted, or its author may have left Bluesky.””

Open the link on Bluesky to check that the post is still there.

“… pictures could not be read from the author’s server and show as empty boxes.”

Section titled ““… pictures could not be read from the author’s server and show as empty boxes.””

The author’s server did not answer, or a picture is over 8 MB. Try again later. See also Troubleshooting.

Your browser did not allow copying. Try again, or choose Download PNG instead. The image could not be made on download has the same fix: try again.

“Bluesky hides this post, so BskyKit does not show it.”

Section titled ““Bluesky hides this post, so BskyKit does not show it.””

Bluesky’s moderation hides the post or its author. This account asks to be shown only to people signed in to Bluesky, so BskyKit does not show its posts. means the author chose to be hidden from people who are signed out, and BskyKit respects that.

“No Bluesky account was found for …”

Section titled ““No Bluesky account was found for …””

The handle in the link no longer belongs to an account, often because the author changed it. Open the post on Bluesky and copy a fresh link.
