What it does

Alt text describes an image or video for people who cannot see it. Alt-Text Audit goes through every image and video in your own posts and replies and shows which ones have none:

• a summary, such as 4 of 6 images and videos have no alt text;
• a list of the posts, newest first, each with how many of its images or videos are missing alt text;
• a By month table of missing and total per month, newest first.

It counts the images and the video of each post, including the images or video posted beside a quoted post. Link cards and quoted posts themselves are not counted, and neither are reposts or likes. Alt text that is empty or only spaces counts as missing.

Alt-Text Audit is a report. Bluesky posts cannot be edited, so it cannot add alt text to a post that is already published. Each row opens the post on Bluesky.

Before you start

• Sign in. See Signing In.
• It uses the shared read of your posts, reposts, and likes, the same one as Bulk Delete and Content Search. If you already read your account in one of those tools, the audit shows at once. See the shared read.

Step by step

1. Open Alt-Text Audit and sign in.
2. Choose Read my posts, reposts, and likes, unless the read is already there. The list fills in as the read goes on.
3. Read the summary above the list.
4. Narrow it with Show, Type, and Date.
5. Choose a month in By month to see only that month. Choose the same month again to go back to all time.
6. Choose a row to open the post on Bluesky in a new tab.

Each row shows what the post holds, such as 3 images or Video, a badge such as 2 of 3 missing, the date, the post’s text, and a small picture of its first image or video.

Options

Option	Choices	Default	What it does

By month	Any month in the table	None	Sets Date to that month. The current month ends today.

By month always covers all dates, so you can jump from one month to another. Posts with no date are left out of the table. Your choices are kept while you move around BskyKit in this tab, and reset when you sign out or switch accounts.

The badge on a row reads 2 of 3 missing when something is missing, or Has alt text or All 3 have alt text when nothing is.

What gets changed

Nothing: Alt-Text Audit only reads.

• Your posts come from the shared read, from your own Bluesky server.
• The small pictures load from Bluesky’s image and video servers.
• On this device: the shared read, until Clear, Read again, or sign-out. See Data on Your Device.

Undo

Nothing to undo: Alt-Text Audit only reads.

Limits

• Every post and reply on your account is checked; there is no cap.
• The shared read is paced to stay within your server’s limits. A very large account takes a few minutes the first time, and shows at once on later visits. See Limits & Pacing.

Troubleshooting

The list says “Reading your account”

The shared read is still going. Posts appear as it reads them.

The list says “No images or videos”

None of your posts and replies has images or a video in the chosen Type and Date. Try All and All time. Reposts and likes are never counted.

The list says “Nothing is missing alt text”

Every image and video in the chosen Type and Date has alt text. Choose All media under Show to list them anyway.

A post you just made is missing

The shared read checks for new posts each time you open a tool that uses it. Reload the page, or choose Read again to read your whole account again.
